Message from the Chairman

Thank you for all members’ support over the years. Please may I also welcome all new members on behalf of the Management Committee of the Asian Medical Education Association (AMEA).

Throughout the years, AMEA has firmly upheld its mission – serving as the principal platform to foster exchanges and interactions among medical schools and institutions across the Asian-Pacific region. With the continuing efforts of all member institutions in the pursuit of excellence in medical education, AMEA has developed from strength to strength. I am proud of all member institutions and am certain that we will work together to scale new heights.

Since the establishment of AMEA in Hong Kong in 2001, our international symposium has become a significant regional flagship program. It is widely recognized for its uniqueness in the promotion of good pedagogy, research and excellence in medical education. The AMEA biennial symposium has been held previously in Shanghai, Seoul, Ulaanbaatar, Bangkok, Bandung, Kuala Lumpur, Newcastle, Australia and Hong Kong. The last biennial symposium was hosted by the International Medical University (Malaysia) in 2019 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Entitled “The 4th Industrial Revolution: Creating a New World for Health Professions Education”, this 10th AMEA symposium provided member institutions an opportunity to reflect on our endeavor, and bring together healthcare professionals to exchange ideas, enrich experiences and cultivate innovations for the best practices in medical education.

The upcoming 11th AMEA symposium will be held on 25 and 26 November, 2026 in Hong Kong. The event will not only bring new insights on adapting medical education to the era of artificial intelligence, but also renew friendship to live out the spirit of the continuous quest for excellence to respond, and to lead changes in the training of the next generation of doctors and health care professionals.

Before we meet in Hong Kong in 2026, do consider exchanging ideas on borderless technological platform e.g. by submitting articles to various prominent regional online health education journals. For example, the Australian & New Zealand Association for Health Professional Educators (ANZAHPE) of their online journal, Focus of Health Professional Education, which welcomes practitioners from Australia and New Zealand, as well as those from all over the world, to contribute their articles on how to advance on health care through better learning and teaching. Details of the journal submissions can be obtained from http://www.anzahpe.org/#!journal-submissions/c17ec. The Management Committee will also actively work with other regional medical and health sciences education journals to allow members to disseminate their academic publications.

AMEA is actively considering other means to promote sharing of good practice in medical education. We welcome new ideas from member institutions and please feel free to contact me or the AMEA secretariat via email imhse@hku.hk

Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all your support to AMEA throughout the years. Let’s join hands and collaborate to meet the challenges in the ever-changing world of healthcare services and medical education. I very much look forward to having lively discussions and dynamic learning from all of you. See you all in Hong Kong in 2026, if not earlier!
